Udzungwa Mountains National Park

Udzungwa Mountains National Park is a pristine and biodiverse protected area located in south-central Tanzania. Established in 1992, the park covers an area of approximately 1,990 square kilometers and is part of the Eastern Arc Mountains, which is a chain of ancient mountains known for their high level of endemism and ecological significance. Udzungwa Mountains National Park is situated about 350 kilometers southwest of Dar es Salaam. It is part of the Eastern Arc Mountains, a chain of isolated mountains and plateaus that harbor a unique and diverse range of flora and fauna. The park is characterized by a series of rolling hills, deep valleys, and lush, montane forests. The Udzungwa Mountains are often referred to as the "Galapagos of Africa" due to the high number of endemic species found in the region. Udzungwa is renowned for its rich biodiversity, with a high concentration of endemic species, including the Udzungwa red colobus monkey, the Udzungwa partridge, and the Iringa red banana. The park is also home to a variety of other primates, such as the Sanje mangabey and the Sykes monkey. One of the notable features of the park is the Sanje Waterfalls, a series of cascading falls that provide a stunning backdrop to the lush landscapes. The waterfalls are a popular attraction for visitors and are accessible via hiking trails. Udzungwa offers a network of well-maintained hiking trails, providing opportunities for various levels of trekking. The trails lead through different forest types, offering the chance to encounter unique plant and animal species. Primate Watching: The park is a prime destination for primate enthusiasts.
